Where Was Ann Curry This Morning?

By Chris Ariens

This Saturday, Ann Curry marks one year as “Today” co-anchor. But as we mentioned earlier, it was former anchor Meredith Vieira who was alongside Matt Lauer this morning covering the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee from London. Al Roker was along for the trip too. And that has some wondering where Curry was. An NBC spokesperson told Newsday’s Verne Gay that Curry had taken a couple vacation days and that she’ll be back tomorrow. Gay writes:

But there is a little something ominous about this too. Why would NBC install Meredith Vieira next to Matt Lauer this morning (she was solo yesterday), reminding viewers of the really good old days, when “Today” was cooking/blowing away “GMA” each and every week? Why remind viewers just how good Vieira is in situations like this — better than Ann, easily.

Why take off days now — why not take off Thursday and Friday? These are all just “whys” and probably have perfectly reasonable answers.

Nevertheless, this looks tenuous for Curry who’s riding the show at a time when it lost to “GMA” for the first time in 16 years.

A source tells TVNewser Curry took the days off to travel to pick up her teenager from school and that she gave plenty of notice that she’d need these days off.
