Last night on the Late Show, David Letterman chatted with Katie Couric about her role as both anchor and managing editor of the CBS Evening News, her “post-election hangover” and those Palin interviews.
Couric detailed the time-line of her interviews, which subsequently got the most press. She questioned why one of her questions to Palin hasn’t been followed up on — about what newspapers she reads:
…nobody’s really asked her why she didn’t answer that question. She claims I said ‘what do you read up there in Alaska?’ As if people in Alaska don’t read or don’t have access to reading materials. But I never said that. I’m aware people in Alaska have access.

One thing that did not come up — the day Sen. John McCain canceled on Letterman only to show up on Couric’s show. The New York Post’s Don Kaplan writes the topic simply never came up: “A Letterman spokesman said the late-night host was not asked by Couric to steer clear of the McCain debacle — and that he never agrees to preconditions when conducting interviews.”
