Back in May, we noted how NBC had conducted a survey on the syndicated NBC program “The Wall Street Journal Report with Maria Bartiromo.” Specifically, the survey asked about the show’s name, and the Wall Street Journal branding it features.
Well, sure enough the program is changing its name as of January 6. The new name will be “On The Money with Maria Bartiromo.” The show is syndicated in most of the major U.S. markets, and also airs on CNBC.
It is well-known that CNBC and the WSJ had a 10 year partnership, set to expire this year. With the name change, it seems all the more likely that CNBC will not be renewing its agreement with WSJ, which is now owned by News Corp. News Corp. also owns Fox Business Network, a chief competitor of CNBC.
It isn’t immediately clear whether FBN will add WSJ branding to its programming or not, but with the newspaper’s strong business brand, and the CNBC deal coming to an end, it seems to be an increasingly likely proposition.
