Vieira’s View: Parade is “Part of What Thanksgiving Is”

By Chris Ariens

With another Macy’s Thanksgiving Day parade behind them, it’s back to Today for Matt Lauer, Meredith Vieira and Al Roker. The trio spoke with the NYDaily News’ Cristina Kinon before this morning’s parade.

Says Lauer, “I used to watch in somewhat of a jaded fashion because I had become more sophisticated in my taste. Then, when all of a sudden, I had kids and I’d bring them down to Herald Square and watch them reacting to what was approaching [us] — the balloons, the floats and Broadway shows — you realize that it touches a place in them that I don’t think computer animation can compete with.”

During the coverage Vieira announced that her kids as well as her brothers and their kids were along the parade route watching. And it’s clearly still emotional for the Today co-anchor. “I still cry when Santa Claus appears.”
