Vice Hires Josh Tyrangiel for HBO Newscast

Vice has hired Josh Tyrangiel, the former chief content officer at Bloomberg, to lead the company’s new daily newscast for HBO. “I can’t think of a more interesting job in journalism, and I can’t wait to get started,” said Tyrangiel in a statement.

Tyrangiel left Bloomberg earlier this month. “I’m so happy to have been a part of Bloomberg these last six years, and eager to see what comes in the next six,” he wrote in a memo to colleagues.

The HBO show will air five nights a week, and aims to produce an evening newscast for a new generation of viewers. Michael Lombardo, president of programming for HBO, calls the project “a daily news show for the 21st century.”

Adds Vice chairman and co-founder Shane Smith: “The nightly news show we’re creating is going to take news programming in a totally new direction, and it needs the leadership of an expert who’s hungry to do things differently. Josh is the perfect fit, and we couldn’t me more excited to have him.”
