Update: Trump Fired As Indy Pace Car Driver

By Cam Martin

In the wake of fan displeasure over Donald Trump’s role as pace car driver for the upcoming Indianapolis 500, race organizers have reportedly delivered the irony-rich line, “You’re fired!” to the billionaire real estate investor whose recent political rantings — particularly the allegation that President Obama was not born in the United States — rubbed a lot of race fans the wrong way.

Deadspin reports, “A source affiliated with the Indianapolis Motor Speedway tells us Donald Trump will not be the driver of the pace car for this month’s 100th anniversary of the Indianapolis 500 after fans complained he was too politically-motivated.

We’re told a meeting is taking place right now to determine precisely how the Indy speedway folks will enforce the decision. They may replace Trump outright with another celebrity pace car driver, they may ask him to pull out (although a Trump spokesman earlier today said he had no plans to do so), or they may keep Trump involved with the race, but change the pace car to another Chevrolet vehicle and bring on another driver to drive it.”
