Univision Names Patsy Loris VP of News

Patsy Loris has been promoted to vice president of news at Univision. In addition to overseeing the network’s news division, Loris will be responsible for hiring personnel and developing show concepts for Fusion, Univision and ABC News’ joint cable channel scheduled for launch later this year.

Loris joined Univision News in 1989 and has most recently worked as the network’s senior news director. She is credited with creating and producing “Al Punto,” Univision’s Sunday public affairs show.

“For the last 24 years, Patsy has helped shape the editorial content of the most trusted and influential news programs on Spanish-language television in the U.S.,” Univision SVP and executive director of news Daniel Coronell said in a statement. “She is a distinguished professional and a consummate leader who has played an instrumental role in the growth and success of Univision News, and we are confident that she will continue to make invaluable contributions to Univision in her new role.”

MIAMI – MAY 28, 2013 – Univision News, the award-winning news division of Univision Communications, Inc., the leading media company serving Hispanic America, today announced that Patsy Loris has been appointed vice president of News. In this role, she will oversee Univision News evening and late night news, its weekend edition, news segments for “Despierta America” (Wake Up America) and the operations of Univision’s news division. Loris is also responsible for working with ABC to launch Fusion, hiring personnel for the news team and developing show concepts and ideas. She will report directly to Daniel Coronell, senior vice president and executive director of News at Univision.

Loris most recently served as senior news director for Univision News and joined the Univision family in 1989. A news veteran with a career in broadcast journalism spanning more than two decades, she has traveled the globe covering the most important news stories, including the fall of the Berlin Wall, the disintegration of the former Soviet Union, the 9/11 terrorist attacks, Hurricanes Andrew and Katrina, the immigration process, presidential debates, presidential and congressional elections and many other major news events around the world. She has also shaped news – securing interviews with some of the world’s most influential leaders, including President Barack Obama, Senator John McCain, former Presidents George W. Bush, George Bush, Bill Clinton, Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, Speaker Newt Gingrich, Governor Mitt Romney, Vice President Al Gore, former Mexican presidents Carlos Salinas de Gortari and Vicente Fox, and dozens of other Latin American political figures. In 2007, she created and produced “Al Punto with Jorge Ramos,” Univision’s highly rated Sunday morning public affairs program.

Loris has been recognized with some of the nation’s most prestigious awards in journalism, including an Edward R. Murrow Award, two national Emmys and one regional Emmy. In 2013, she was part of the Univision team that was honored with the Walter Cronkite Award for Excellence in Television Political Journalism—a first for Spanish-language television in America.

Loris received her bachelor’s degree in Broadcast Journalism from Florida International University.
