Ugly Parting of @BreakingNews Founders

By Chris Ariens

At the start of 2010, MSNBC bought the popular and growing BreakingNews.com and its Twitter feed which came with the valuable @BreakingNews handle. Things have been going pretty smoothly this year. But there’s been an ugly parting between the founders. One, who lives in Mexico, and the other, who is in the Netherlands.

FishbowlLA has the press release from president and founder Michael van Poppel:

Last week, I informed Rodrigo Javier of my decision to end his employment with us because I believe it was no longer possible to continue our work together.

Rodrigo was paid a monthly salary along with extra expenses covered but, despite this, he continued to take decisions which I did not approve of and have hurt the company in the past. He was given severance pay to help with his debt, which originated from his personal decisions unrelated to BNO News.

For his part, Javier, who changed his personal handle to @RjavierMX, is, of course, Tweeting about his dismissal.

Sending gossip via an email list is not so professional. I dont have any campaign against BNO News.
