Two Players Not Named Sidney Crosby Named NHL All-Star Captains

Eric Staal and Nicklas Lidstrom will have the honor of wearing the “C” during the 2011 NHL All-Star Game. And this is news why, you ask?

Because one of those names isn’t Sidney Crosby.

The Pittsburgh Penguins star may skip the game because of an injury he sustained after being checked from behind. The player (Victor Hedman) wasn’t suspended and Crosby is pissed.A source tells the Daily Mail Crosby might not play in the All-Star game on January 30.

As Puck Daddy’s Greg Wyshynski points out, the timing of the DM article – a day before the announcement of the All-Star captains – is a bit of subtle protest by the league’s Golden Boy (although Wyshynski’s careful to note that he doesn’t think Crosby will miss the game due to a protest).

Lindstrom is taking everything in stride and sounds just happy to be involved. You know, because he’s a hockey player.

“With all the great players participating, it’s a great honor to be selected as a Captain for this year’s All-Star game,” the long-time star said in a release announcing the news. “I’m really looking forward to all of the weekend’s events and I’m very excited to be a part of the draft that decides the rosters of the two teams.”

He’ll probably be happier if he gets to pick Crosby as a teammate.
