Two Lawsuits Filed Against NBC

By Jordan Chariton

nbcnews304NBC News has been slapped with two lawsuits, one by a former freelance producer, the other by a Michigan construction worker who was wrongly identified as being “Caught on Camera.”

Keith Todd is suing NBCUniversal for being identified as a criminal during an episode of MSNBC’s “Caught on Camera.” The person police actually arrested is a man named Todd Keith.

After Keith Todd sent MSNBC a letter asking for a retraction, the network stopped airing reruns of that episode, and also pulled footage from its website. In his lawsuit, Todd cites public humiliation and loss of employment income as the results of MSNBC’s mistake.

Last week, former “Dateline” producer Kimberly Lengle sued NBC News for allegedly assigning her to dangerous, sexual role-play stories. Lengle singles out Dateline producer Dan Slepian for almost exclusively assigning her — and none of her male colleagues — to stories that, among other things, involved responding to sex ads.

“We took this freelancer’s allegations very seriously and determined that her claims were entirely without merit,” an NBC News spokesperson tells TVNewser. “We will vigorously defend our position in this case.”
