TVNewser Football Challenge Update

At the start of the football season, we issued a challenge to some TV newsers. First, we asked the White House correspondents to pick a college football national champion.

Congrats to FNC’s Mike Emanuel and NBC’s Chuck Todd who were the closest with their pick of the University of Texas. Emanuel predicted that Colt McCoy would lead the longhorns to a National Championship and if he hadn’t gotten injured early in the game, he might have.

Then, we asked 10 anchors from cable networks to pick the eventual NFL Super Bowl champs. Of the six anchors that had teams in the playoffs, CNN’s John King, CNBC’s Jim Cramer, and MSNBC’s Joe Scarborough all had the New England Patriots who lost last weekend in the AFC wild card game. With the San Diego Chargers’ loss today, FNC’s Bill Hemmer and CNBC’s Carl Quintanilla were also eliminated.

That leaves one newser with a shot at the TVNewser 2009-2010 trophy: Fox Business Network’s Jenna Lee! Lee picked the Minnesota Vikings, who are on their way to the NFC championship, partly because it’s one of the teams her father, NFL quarterback Bob Lee, played for. Good thing she didn’t go with one of his other teams: the Rams or the Falcons.
