Turkish officials have released two journalists from Vice News who’d been held since last Thursday when they were arrested in front of their hotel. Their translator remains in prison, Al Jazeera reports.
Jake Hanrahan and Philip Pendlebury, who work out of Vice’s London office, along with their translator and a driver were taken into custody in the Southern city of Diyarbakir last Thursday. The driver was released, but the three others were accused of “deliberately aiding an armed organization.”
Ahmet Ay, one of the lawyers representing the team, told Al Jazeera that the journalists were released in the southern province of Adana, where they were recently transferred to from Diyarbakir. “The prosecutor decided to free the two Vice News journalists, but the translator is still imprisoned,” Ay said.
