Today’s Farewell to Jim Miklaszewski: ‘Mik, We Love You’

NBC News’ retiring chief Pentagon correspondent Jim Miklaszewski got special thanks on Thursday morning’s Today Show. “Mik, we love you, congratulations, thank you, and good luck,” said co-host Matt Lauer.

“I don’t know what we’re going to do without you,” said Today co-host Savannah Guthrie. “But enjoy that retirement.”

NBC announced Miklaszewski’s retirement in April, with his last day set for later in the year. On Wednesday night, NBC News colleagues in Washington celebrated Miklaszewski’s 31-year NBC career, including being the first correspondent on the air from the Pentagon on 9/11. “Mik was the first on scene to report that the Pentagon had been attacked,” Lauer said Thursday.

Miklaszewski was also recently recognized at the Pentagon, and was awarded the Office of the Secretary of Defense Exceptional Public Service Award for his “outstanding dedication and tireless commitment to keeping the American people informed regarding the operations of their men and women in uniform serving around the world.”

Miklaszewski joined NBC from CNN in 1985 as a White House correspondent. The Wisconsin native was a CNN original when that network went on the air in 1980 and was the moderator for two early CNN public affairs programs: Election Watch and Newsmaker Sunday.
