‘Today’ Wins with Paula Deen Interview

By Chris Ariens

The “Today” show got its first win over “GMA” since Hurricane Sandy blew ashore last November. But because the storm knocked out power to millions in the Northeast, that day, Friday November 2, is not counted in official Nielsen records. So you’d have to go back to Monday, August 13, the day after the closing ceremony of the London Olympics for “Today’s” last outright win over “GMA.”

With Matt Lauer’s interview with Paula Deen, “Today” beat “GMA” in both total viewers and the key A25-54, according to Nielsen preliminary numbers.

“Today” averaged 4.798 million Total Viewers, ahead of “GMA’s” 4.630 million. “Today” drew 1.876 million A25-54 viewers, ahead of “GMA’s” 1.708 million. That’s a 168,000 lead in both Total Viewers and the younger demo.
