How the Today Show’s Digital EP Sees the Future of Media

By Brian Flood

Ashley Parrish, who oversees the digital operations of NBCs Today show, sees her job as “mixing data with editorial intuition.”

Parrish was among several digital news leaders participating in a Future of Media discusssion moderated by NY1 anchor Pat Kiernan. The conversation focused on how digital publishers are innovating and adapting to changing consumer behavior with the goal of engaging and growing their audiences.

“We have four hours of live TV and 24 hours of live internet,” Parrish said when discussing original video creation for Today.com. “We’re mixing data with editorial intuition. We are part artist part scientist, meaning we create and analyze.”

“It’s thinking about what’s happening now vs. what could happen later,” she said.
