Rob George has been named director of NBC’s “Today,” TVNewser has learned. For the last three seasons George has been the director of “Who Wants to be a Millionaire?” He replaces Joe Michaels who was upped to Senior Director last month and is currently overseeing a studio revamp set to debut in the Fall.
George got his start in local news at KING TV and later KOMO TV in Seattle. He was a part of the directing team for NBC’s coverage of the 1992 Barcelona Olympics; was the director of the syndicated “The Other Half,” an early 2000’s male version of “The View;” and more recently worked on projects for Ryan Seacrest Productions.
Writes “Today” Senior EP Don Nash in a note to staff, “We are fortunate to have such a strong bench of directors on our team and with Rob’s appointment, that bench is even stronger.”
George starts August 12. He will direct to 7-9am hours, while Jim Gaines directs the third and fourth hours.
