‘Today’ Apologizes for Bad Sign Language Joke

By Jordan Chariton

‘Today” apologized for a bad sign language joke that happened during its third hour Wednesday.

The joke in question happened during a conversation about the authenticity of the sign language interpreter at Nelson Mandela’s memorial. During the segment, a pop-up appeared on the bottom part of the screen with a show staffer signing. The hosts immediately objected. An apology came later via Twitter:

“No, no, guys don’t do it,” Natalie Morales said, waving at her producers to stop. “Guys let’s not do that.”

“No, no, no…wrong,” Al Roker said, putting his head down in frustration.

“That is horrific,” Morales concluded.
