‘Today’ Airs Footage Of The Wrong Black Quarterback

By Alex Weprin

NBC’s “Today” got its African American quarterbacks confused this morning.

The program had an interview with Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Michael Vick, who has a new memoir out. Vick was one of the top quarterbacks in the NFL, and almost lost it all when he was convicted for his involvement in an illegal dog-fighting ring. After getting out of prison he was given a second chance at football by the Eagles.

Given his superstar athlete status, and his time in the news for the dog-fighting, Vick is one of the most recognizable people in the U.S. That did not stop NBC from showing b-roll of a completely different quarterback, however.

WATCH:

The quarterback in that video is not Vick, but rather former Eagles QB Vince Young (as first noted by Guyism) Update: Guyism now reports that it was Jerrod Johnson, not Young. While they are both African American, and both played for the same team, Vick wears number seven, not eight, and Vick is (quite famously) a lefty, not a righty, as seen in the clip.
