The New York Times’ Brian Stelter writes about an upcoming NBC program in which NBC News teams up with prosecutors from foreign countries to go after alleged war criminals currently living in the United States.
Critics of the show’s premise have included the Department of Homeland Security (Stelter has the full statement from the Department on the TVDecoder blog) to the President of a college where a suspected war criminal was teaching.
NBC says “Any contact with foreign governments has been consistent with acceptable journalistic practices. Beyond that, it is our policy not to comment on our news gathering.” The show is still “months away” from airing.
On today’s “Menu” podcast, Stelter talked about the story. “Clearly NBC sees this format which is ‘go after these bad guys, bring these cameras, bring law enforcement with them or bring prosecutors with them,’ to be a compelling format,” he said this morning. “And I’ll be the first to say I think it would make for very watchable television.”
