Tiger Woods Is Still Ratings Gold

By Noah Davis

Tiger Woods has had a rough 2010 both on and off the course. On Sunday, his golf season came to a fitting end when he lost a four-shot lead to Graeme McDowell and fell in the Chevron World Challenge. It completed his first winless season since like forever ago.

But! The broadcast “generated the best Sunday overnight rating in eight years and a 170-percent increase from last year’s final-day broadcast.” The third round coverage was also up huge, showing a 167 percent increase from ’09.

The best ratings for the event came in 2002, a match that featured Padraig Harrington defeating, you guessed it, Woods.

Golf’s biggest star doesn’t carry the pull he previously did, but it’s clear that he’s still a massive marketing vehicle. It should help him regain some sponsors, especially if his game continues to improve.
