In a couple weeks you’re going to see a new TVNewser — just the design, we’re not changing the content. And with Kevin’s departure last week, we are in the process of hiring a new co-editor. I think you’ll like who we’ve selected.
The new TVNewser will mirror the design of our new site SportsNewser. Why? Well, we’re moving to a new blogging platform or CMS called Word Press from something we currently use called Moveable Type. Riveting stuff, I know.
And as part of the transition I went into the CMS archives of TVNewser — the never before published archives. The stories left in “draft.” The stories that never saw the light of day, because, well, the story fell through, never germinated into a full post or was simply a bad idea.
TVNewser has been around for almost 7 years, known first as CableNewser and founded by New York Times reporter Brian Stelter. Brian left a lot of his stories in “draft,” so did Steve Krakauer and Kevin Allocca and Alex and so have I. So I went digging.
Brian left the most stories in draft — more than 200. But most were ideas or notes that just never turned into stories. Some, like this one from Feb. 2006, eventually did:
“Why no mention of the disappearance of Alexis Glick from NBC?,” a tipster asks.
Brian did write about Glick later that month.
And this tipster’s question from Nov. 2006:
I haven’t seen Carol Iovanna, Donna Fiducia or David Folk Thomas doing the overnight updates of FNC lately. Have they been let go?
They were.
And this one from Sept. 2006:
QUESTIONS FOR YOUR CONSIDERATION IN THE MORNING WARS? PERHAPS YOU SHOULD SOLICIT OPINIONS.. * HOW WILL MEREDITH DO TOMORROW IN HER DEBUT ON TODAY? * WHAT IMPACT WILL SHE HAVE ON THE RATINGS? UP, DOWN OR NO EFFECT?
Krakauer left a few as well — stories about Rachel Maddow and Bret Baier and Donny Deutsch. So did Kevin, but his were mostly bad jokes.
And I left this story in draft in Nov. 2008:
Could Roger Ailes Be In Line for News Corp. COO?
It hasn’t happened… but it still could. Stay tuned. The redesigned TVNewser is coming Sept. 23.
