> Bob Schieffer’s younger brother may run for governor of Texas. Fort Worth lawyer Tom Schieffer formed a gubernatorial campaign committee to begin raising money and interest, but a decision will not be made for several months. Schieffer, a Democrat, is a friend of former Pres. George W. Bush. He was Bush’s ambassador to Australia and Japan.

> What happens when a late winter snowstorm approaches the eastern seaboard…on a Sunday? People turn on TV, specifically the Weather Channel. The network is boasting 34 million unduplicated viewers on Sunday – making it the #1 cable news and information channel.

> When the big three anchors travel the U.S. they often take time to do interviews with local stations. Charlie Gibson did that in California today, talking with an anchor from KESQ (Palm Springs). On the future of TV news, Gibson said, “The much maligned mainstream media, in many respects, are more important now than ever. Because there is such a profusion of voices. And you have to find somebody that you trust.”
