> Marisa Guthrie from B&C examines why the evening news anchor gig is still so coveted even though the morning shows are the big network draw: “The morning shows, rife with synergistic marketing opportunities thanks to a menu heavy on lifestyle segments, are the cash cows of the news divisions. GMA earned more than $300 million in ad revenue in 2008, according to TNS. But the evening news, and its anchor, gives the entire enterprise essential credibility.”

> CNN’s Roland Martin will debut his new Sunday morning talk show, “Washington Watch with Roland Martin,” on September 27 at 11amET on TV One. The public affairs show will “focus on issues of importance to African-Americans.”

> Mediaweek released its list of “our 50 most important movers in the media and media agency business.” At number one this year is NBC Entertainment chair Jeff Gaspin. Also on the list: Sharri Berg, senior vp, news operations, Fox TV Stations (#12); Mike Pilot, president, sales and marketing, NBC Universal (#32); and Paul Rittenberg, executive vp, advertising sales, Fox News (#45).
