The Ticker: CNN, Koppel, The Grio

By Alex Weprin

  • An investigative report on CNN’s “AC360,” has sparked an investigation from the U.S. Senate. The report examines the tax-exempt Disabled Veterans National Foundation, which claims to raise money for veterans, but has not appeared to give any money directly to veterans. CNN’s Drew Griffin was unable to secure an interview with the group’s founder, even after showing up at her house. Now Senators Max Baucus (D – Mont.) and Richard Burr (R – N.C.) are launching an investigation into the organization.

  • Former ABC News anchor and current NBC contributor Ted Koppel is the inaugural inductee into the WAER-FM Hall of Fame. WAER is a public radio station licensed to Syracuse University, where Koppel was a student. He served as program director of WAER in 1959.
  • NBC News website TheGrio.com has relaunched with a new site design. There are now a handful of key news topics, such as politics, business and entertainment, with text, video and other multimedia reports surrounding those subject areas. The site now also operates on the WordPress platform.
