“The Struggle At 60”

In CJR, David Blum examines “The Struggle At 60,” and the future of 60 Minutes. He says Steve Kroft’s November profile of actor Dustin Hoffman was a “sad, embarrassing moment in the show’s history:” “It was the first time in 60 Minutes’s thirty-seven years on television that a correspondent had ever high-fived the subject of a profile.” And it was more than that, Blum explains.

> Also: The show appears, at times, to “have cast its lot with the quest for advertiser-attracting demographics that plagues so much of its competition.”

> Update: 9:52pm: “Blum’s piece suggests the need to infuse new blood into the program. With that, I should hope the network gives Rather, Pelley and Vicki Mabrey full-time editor/contributor gigs and allows other talented reporters like Lara Logan the chance to report for it as well.”
