The New York Times Finds Willie Mays in Harlem

By Noah Davis

Willie Mays and the World Series-winning San Francisco Giants are coming to New York this weekend and visiting Harlem, the site of the Polo Grounds where the New York Giants played before relocating out West. In anticipation of the trip, The New York Times‘ William Rhoden goes in search of “Willie Mays’s Harlem,” filming the entire expedition.

The result is a touching piece the shows the famous ballplayer as a humble member of his neighborhood who played stickball with the kids and then bought them ice cream at the local store before heading down the street to patrol centerfield for the Giants.
