The Morning Shows Have Some April Fools Day Fun

By Alex Weprin

Today is April 1, the worst news day of the year? Why? Because hundreds of news organizations play “tricks” on their viewers and readers, and inevitably some fall through the cracks and are taken seriously.

The network morning shows are no exception. NBC’s “Today” opted not to trick viewers, and instead had a surprise flash mob featuring singer Chris Brown, a surprise proposal (a fake proposal) and a segment featuring a “professional trickster” who played a prank on Natalie Morales and other staffers:

ABC’s “Good Morning America” decided to go with the old “fake news story” route, with Nick Watt presenting a scarily plausible story about the language of gorillas… unless you caught the clues. He even looped in animal expert Jack Hanna, and, er, Kim Kardashian.
