The Five Has Launched a New, Free Podcast

By A.J. Katz

The Five is the first Fox News program to launch a free podcast, supported by advertisers, not paying subscribers.

It’s pulling this off thanks to a new partnership with TargetSpot, an advanced digital audio ad platform that connects top national brands as well as local and regional advertisers.

“With the growing popularity of podcasts, it’s only natural we’d expand our digital platform and allow listeners free unlimited access to premium content,” Fox News radio vp and gm Doug Murphy tells TVNewser. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with TargetSpot and connecting top advertisers with one of Fox News’s highest-rated programs The Five in audio podcast form.”

All of the other Fox News program podcasts are currently behind paywalls.

The free podcast could help The Five grow its younger audience who are more inclined to listen to podcasts. After a 7-year run at 5 p.m. ET, The Five moved to 9 p.m. ET in April and is facing stiffer competition from MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. While up year-over-year in total audience, the roundtable opinion show is currently trailing Maddow in the adults 25-54 demo, which matters most to advertisers.
