The ‘Dream’ Ticker: #DreamDay, ‘PoliticsNation,’ Lemon

  • NBC News is launching a social media campaign called #DreamDay tied to the 50th anniversary of the March on Washington. Users (and NBC News talent) can submit brief videos beginning with “I have a dream that…”. Lost Remote has more.

  • MSNBC’s “PoliticsNation” will be live from the National Mall tonight from 6-8 PM. Martin Luther King Jr.’s family will be guests, as well as Rep. John Lewis, who helped plan the original march. Other guests, after the jump.

  • CNN’s Don Lemon talks to Mediaite about the documentary on the original march that he is hosting tonight. “I hate to say it was an idea whose time had come, but the time had come for America to recognize its own people.”

MSNBC is airing a special two-hour “PoliticsNation: March on Washington: The Dream Continues” hosted by Reverend Al Sharpton tonight from 6-8PM ET live from the National Mall. Guests will include Dr. Martin Luther King’s family members Martin Luther King III and Bernice King as well as Representative John Lewis, the last living member of the”big 6″ who planned the original March.

Rev. Joe Lowery, Myrlie Evers-Williams, the widow of Medgar Evers and Taylor Branch, author of “Parting the Waters” will also join Sharpton. Additionally, Marc Morial, the head of the Urban League and Tom Joyner, the MC for tomorrow’s march along with Dorie Ladner and Joyce Ladner who organized and attended the original March, Michael Grunko who attended the original March and Edith Lee-Payne whose image at 12 years old become symbolic for the civil rights movement will reflect on the past 50 years.

Several union leaders including Lee Saunders, AFSCME, President, Randi Weingarten, AFT, President and Dennis Van Roekel, NEA, President will talk about labor relations of the past and present. Then, Reverend Sharpton will share his own personal reflections on the civil rights movement ahead of tomorrow’s march. The Executive Producer of the special is Matt Saal.
