The Big Idea Shelved

Breaking: The cuts affecting NBCU are hitting CNBC this morning.

TVNewser has learned The Big Idea with Donny Deutsch has been put on hiatus, but not canceled. An insider with knowledge of the situation tells TVNewser the idea of a “success show” is not right in this economic climate. The show began its run in 2004.

Deutsch will host monthly specials related to entrepreneurship. He will also continue his appearances on the Today show.

As for a report that as many as 80 CNBC staffers would be cut, our insider says that number “is significantly inaccurate on the high side.”

No other shows are on the chopping block, but there will be staffing cuts. How many, is not known.
