Synergy! ‘Good Morning America’ Goes All-Out To Promote Oscars on ABC

By Alex Weprin

This Sunday the 84th annual Academy Awards will be held in Los Angeles, and televised on ABC. As is standard whenever a network pays big money for a major cultural event (see “Bowl, Super” and “Olympics, London”) ABC is going all-out to promote the telecast, including on its news programs.

For ABC News, “Good Morning America” is leading the synergy charge, broadcasting from Los Angeles through Tuesday. This morning Robin Roberts anchored from the El Capitan Theater in Hollywood, which is also owned by Disney.

There was a live audience, a feat which isn’t that unusual, until you realize it was 4:30 AM.
