Sunday Show Ratings: January 29

Sunday-AM-Anchors_061015_640Viewers flocked to the Sunday public affairs programs on January 29, with NBC’s Meet the Press with Chuck Todd winning the race across the board for the second consecutive week.

MTP grew a +23 percent in total viewers and +36 percent in the key A25-54 news demo relative to the final Sunday of January 2016. No Sunday show posted more year-over-year audience growth than Meet the Press. Pres. Trump’s chief of Staff Reince Priebus, Sen. Tim Kaine (D-Va.), and former moderator Tom Brokaw appeared on the program. Sunday’s episode delivered MTP’s second biggest audience in eight years (since Jan. 18, 2009). The program also continued its streak as the No. 1 Sunday show in the Washington market, winning its 83rd consecutive broadcast.

CBS’ Face the Nation finished a close second to Meet the Press in total viewers, and was up +17 percent from the final Sunday of January 2016. FTN also improved +11 percent in the news demo from last year. Reince Priebus appeared on the program, followed by interviews with Sen. John McCain (R-AZ) and Rep. Keith Ellison (D-MN).

ABC’s This Week with George Stephanopoulos ranked No.3, but posted year-over-year growth in total viewers (+8 percent) and in the news demo (+13 percent). This Week is drawing its largest overall audience in 18 years and its strongest news demo performance in 8 years – since the 1998-99 and the 2008-09 seasons, respectively.

Fox News Sunday, hosted by Chris Wallace, also posted year-over-year audience growth in total viewers (+14 percent) and in the news demo (+18 percent). The trio of cable replays delivered 4.25 million viewers and 1.02 million adults 25-54 at 2 p.m., 10 p.m. and 2 a.m. ET. Altogether, the Jan. 29 episode of FNS delivered 6.1 million total viewers and 1.61 million adults 25-54.

Univision’s Sunday public affairs program Al Punto hit a season-high this past Sunday, and increased its total audience from the comparable Sunday last year by +32 percent. The program also improved from last year by +56 percent in the key 25-54 news demo, +57 percent among adults 18-49 and +60 percent among adults 18-34.

Al Punto was the No. 2 Sunday morning public affairs program on broadcast TV among adults 18-34, only behind Meet the Press. It beat ABC, CBS and FOX in that demo.

Editor’s Note: Face the Nation’s second half-hour was broadcast contiguously across 59.8% of the CBS affiliates.
