Steven Spielberg Talks Lincoln on ‘Morning Joe’

By Chris Ariens

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe” this morning, TIME managing editor Rick Stengel revealed this week’s cover: What Would Lincoln Do? an introspection of the 16th president in terms of this year’s election. It’s also a tie-in to Steven Spielberg’s new film “Lincoln” which, by design, will be released after the election.

Spielberg was also on the show and talked about Lincoln: the man and the film, adding, Lincoln was “One of the great presidents. Not the greatest looking president in our history. Because the camera wasn’t around it was a little easier to get him elected then.”

TIME is putting on a screening tonight at which Spielberg and Daniel Day Lewis, who plays Lincoln, will do a Q&A. TVNewser will be at that screening. We’ll give you our take tomorrow.
