Steve Phillips To Co-Host Sirius XM Morning Show

By Marcus Vanderberg

Former ESPN baseball analyst and general manager Steve Phillips will further his role on Sirius XM and join the Mad Dog Radio sports talk channel.

Phillips will join Gary Williams to co-host Gary and Phillips in the Morning, weekdays starting on Oct. 4 from 6:00-10:00 AM EST. The station is headlined by Chris “Mad Dog” Russo, who’s the host of Mad Dog Unleashed weekday afternoons.

“Having served as a player, director of player personnel, scout and general manager I have a unique perspective on all issues in sports,” Phillips said in a statement. “To have the chance to do a national daily radio show, in drive time, on a top notch channel like Mad Dog Radio, is one of the more thrilling opportunities of my career. For the past several months I’ve seen first-hand the broadcasting quality and freedom that SIRIUS XM offers and I’m excited about taking on a more expanded role.”

Phillips will continue his role as host of Sirius XM Fantasy Baseball.

After he was fired from ESPN in 2009 for having an affair with a production assistant, Phillips joined Fanhouse.com as a baseball columnist and was a contributor to Mike’d Up on WFAN with Russo’s former radio partner, Mike Francesa.
