Steve Capus Promoted To Senior VP

It’s official:Steve Capus, executive producer of “NBC Nightly News with Brian Williams” has been promoted to senior vice president, NBC News, effective immediately, NBC News President Neal Shapiro announced today. Capus will be the No. 2 News Division executive, replacing Bill Wheatley whose retirement was announced in April.”

Neal Shapiro says: “In replacing Bill, Steve has enormous shoes to fill, but I have no doubt that in this position he will display all the same talents he has become known for at NBC News – his passion for the story, his unrelenting dedication to journalism and his skilled leadership style. We are lucky to have him in this new role, and I congratulate him on this well deserved promotion.”

“Capus will also serve as the executive-in-charge of “NBC Nightly News,” and will have oversight of “Nightly News,” Specials programming, newsgathering and breaking news.” Here’s the P.R…

> Update: 9:14pm: Broadcasting & Cable says “Capus has been working literally day and night for NBC during much of his career. His credits over the past include producer of NBC News Sunrise, supervising producer on Today and senior producer NBC Nightside. He can even talk shop with his wife when he gets home. She is Sophia Faskianos, a Dateline NBC special segment producer.”
