Stephanie Cutter Hired, Then Released by NBC

Stephanie Cutter, a veteran of both the Obama 2012 campaign and the Obama administration, was hired–and then un-hired–as an NBC News and MSNBC political analyst Friday.

Politico’s Mike Allen first reported Cutter, who was briefly part of CNN’s effort to re-boot Crossfire, would join NBC as an exclusive contributor “on a range of topics across all platforms including Meet the Press, Today, Nightly and MSNBC.” Cutter was set to make her debut on Andrea Mitchell Reports Friday afternoon. But things got complicated.

The New York Times reported Friday that Cutter would would lead the campaign to gain approval for President Obama’s Supreme Court nominee, Merrick Garland.

The conflict led NBC to withdraw her new gig before Cutter’s first appearance. “We look forward to Stephanie’s insights on our air during this election year, but she will appear as a guest and not as an analyst due to her leadership role in the battle over the President’s Supreme Court nomination,” NBC said in a statement.
