Spitzer Scandal: Biz Nets First

By SteveK

While the big three cable networks (as well as Headline News) all picked up the Gov. Eliot Spitzer prostitution ring story around 2:17pmET, the business networks had the story significantly earlier. CNBC was first with the news, at 2:07pmET, sourcing The New York Times article. A CNBC spokesman says the network’s content sharing deal with the Times did not help in this situation — an assignment editor simply saw it on the Dow Jones newswire flash and alerted producers. FBN and Bloomberg followed with their reports at 2:09pmET.
