Space Shuttle Discovery Makes Washington Fly-By

The Space Shuttle Discovery has been circling Washington DC this morning, making a low-altitude fly-by of the Nation’s Capital before being taken to the Smiths0nian for display.

CNN provided by far the most coverage, covering the fly-by almost non-stop between 9:50 AM and 11 AM. John Zarella and Lizzie O’Leary covered the fly-by and landing for the network.

Fox News provided rolling coverage early on, and started t cut back and forth between the shuttle and other news starting around 10:15 AM. Doug McKelway and Phil Keating covered the event for the network in the field.

MSNBC provided by far the least coverage, only showing around 20 seconds of footage between 9:50 and 10:49, before finally providing live coverage of the final fly-by and landing around 10:49. Jay Barbree reported for the network for the landing. Among the topics covered by MSNBC instead of showing footage of the shuttle: new comments regarding Mitt Romney strapping his dog on the roof of the car, NASCAR’s Tony Stewart visiting the White House and earthquakes in Chile and Papua New Guinea.

Discovery landed at Dulles airport at 11:05 AM, live on all three cable news channels:
