According to an FBI/Homeland Security bulletin obtained, the hackers behind the Sony email leaks are now threatening American news media organizations. The so-called Guardians of Peace are allegedly threatening a specific-but-unnamed news organization but “may extend to other such organizations in the near future,” according to the Joint Intelligence Bulletin, which can be seen here.
Jana Winter, who recently left FoxNews.com after fighting to protect her sources during coverage of the Colorado theater shooting, broke the story for The Intercept.
“While it’s hard to tell how legitimate the threat is, if a news organization is attacked in the same manner Sony was, it could put countless sensitive sources in danger of being exposed—or worse,” Trevor Timm, executive director of the Freedom of the Press Foundation, told The Intercept.
