Soledad O’Brien: ‘I Certainly Could’ Appear On Another Network At Some point

By Alex Weprin

Now former CNN anchor Soledad O’Brien talks to The Hollywood Reporter about her new production company venture, and where she goes from here. O’Brien says that her first priority is setting up the production company, and completing projects that CNN has already commissioned.

As far as appearing on-camera on other networks in a reporting capacity in the future, O’Brien seems open to the idea.

“I certainly could, I have not specifically taken any questions about that. No one has asked me to do that,” she says. “And right now I would love to get what I’m doing [her production company] underway, but I think it’s an interesting thing to do. It would really, again, depend on what the offer is … Theoretically, absolutely.”

As to the type of projects that O’Brien hopes to produce with her new company:

“We will produce movie-of-the-weeks, we’ll produce films, we’ll produce scripted TV, non-scripted TV, documentaries, curriculum, public events,” O’Brien tells THR.

CNN effectively gave O’Brien a development deal as part of her agreement to leave, and the network retains the right of first refusal, so if she wants to produce a doc or series, CNN gets first dibs. If they pass, she can shop it elsewhere.
