He returns for football games and even spoke at commencement 3 years ago, now Shepard Smith is going back to Ole Miss as a teacher. For the next two weeks he’ll instruct future TV news anchors, producers and reporters the tricks of the trade.
Smith, who attended Ole Miss, but left two credits shy of graduation for his first TV news job, will broadcast his shows — “Studio B” at 3pmET and “FOX Report” at 7pmET — from The University of Mississippi campus in Oxford today.
Tomorrow and Wednesday he’ll take his show to the flood zone. Oxford is about 75 miles east of the Mississippi River. This past Friday, Smith took a helicopter ride over Tunica, as well as a boat ride, to show the damage of the flooded region. He’ll air some of that footage on today’s shows.
Then on Thursday and Friday Smith won’t be anchoring so he can spend full days with the students, who are in for a real treat next week.
The second week of the two-week, 500-level elective course called Multimedia Storytelling will be spent in New York where students will shadow Smith and his staff at Fox News Channel while working on their own news stories.
