7 Years Ago Bret Baier Took On a ‘Daunting’ Task

Fox News Channel’s chief political anchor Bret Baier took over for Brit Hume exactly seven years ago today as the anchor of Special Report.

“Seven years ago today, I took over the 6 p.m. show from my mentor and friend, Brit Hume. Trust me, it was daunting — his were huge shoes to fill. Roger Ailes had confidence that it would all work,” Baier told TVNewser. “And thanks to the hard work of a dedicated staff and a superior stable of correspondents and contributors – it has.  We have all made Special Report a very solid and recurring success.”

Baier is filling Hume’s shoes nicely. Special Report consistently ranks in the Top 5 cable news programs and is up +5 percent in viewers and + 4 percent in the key A25-54 demo compared to 2014.

Baier will moderate the next FNC debate alongside Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace on Jan 28.
