16 Million Watch Secretary Clinton’s Mid-Day Concession Speech on Cable News

Secretary Hillary Clinton‘s concession speech Wednesday morning brought millions of viewers to their television sets. Senator Tim Kaine gave opening remarks from 11:34 – 11:40 a.m. ET, and Secretary Clinton spoke from 11:40 – 11:54 a.m. ET. Here is the quarter-hour viewership breakdown for the big 3 cable networks, in total viewers and in the A25-54 demo:

11:30 – 11:45 a.m. ET

  • Total Viewers: FNC: 8,232,842 / CNN: 5,710,000  / MSNBC: 2,155,000
  • A25-54 viewers: FNC: 2,135,823 / CNN: 1,917,903 / MSNBC: 632,048

11:45 a.m. – 12 p.m. ET

  • Total Viewers: FNC: 8,030,431  / CNN: 5,674,548 / MSNBC: 2,271,170
  • A25-54 viewers: FNC: 2,069,636 / CNN: 1,915,638 / MSNBC: 643,772

The broadcast networks and business networks also carried her speech adding millions more viewers. But on cable, Fox News won both quarter hours, followed by CNN and MSNBC.

Almost 8 million total viewers and 2.1 million from the A25-54 demo were tuned into the Fox News during the entire 11 a.m. hour, which also included comments from Speaker Paul Ryan regarding Donald Trump‘s win. The performance both in total viewers and the key news demo is a new Fox News record for that hour. The previous record for the network during the 11 a.m. hour was on April 9, 2003 when 4.7 million total viewers and almost 2 million from the 25-54 demo watched Iraq War coverage.

Fox News also delivered 5.9 million total prime time viewers yesterday for its post-election coverage, tops across cable news.
