Sean Spicer Thought Melissa McCarthy ‘Could Dial Back’ Her Impression of Him

By Chris Ariens

White House Press Secretary and Rhode Island native Sean Spicer was in Houston yesterday cheering on his New England Patriots as they came from behind to win Super Bowl LI in overtime. Spicer sat with Vice President Mike Pence who was spotted a few times on camera sitting with former Secretary of State James Baker who was honorary chairman of the Houston Super Bowl host committee.

Extra’s AJ Calloway caught up with Spicer in Houston and got his take on the Saturday Night Live sketch in which Melissa McCarthy portrayed Spicer.

Explaining that he’d first heard about the sketch while leaving church Sunday morning, Spicer said his texts had been blowing up so much he thought there must be a national emergency. Spicer told “Extra” exclusively he felt the impression was a little exaggerated. His advice was that McCarthy “needs to slow down on the gum chewing; way too many pieces in there.” Though he thought it was a really “funny” show, he felt that McCarthy “could dial back” a bit.
