Sean McManus: King of the TV World

By Chris Ariens

Sean McManus is still on cloud 9 this morning.

McManus, who is president of CBS News and Sports, also has the distinction of being the executive producer of the most-watched television program in history. McManus was EP of CBS’s coverage of Super Bowl XLIV.

In a note to the CBS Sports staff, obtained by TVNewser, McManus writes, “From noon right through the Post Game Show, our programming was filled with memorable and compelling images that will live on forever. And how cool is it to be able to say that we all worked on the most-watched program in television history!”

He also gave a shout out to the team at the “Early Show” for their South Beach broadcasts last week. “You had an ambitious plan going in, but you all delivered when it really mattered,” wrote McManus in a separate note. He’s also looking forward to CBS’s next Super Bowl telecast in New Orleans in 2013.

McManus is the son of the late Jim McKay who was the voice of ABC Sports for more than 40 years, and was anchor for 12 Olympic games on both CBS and ABC.

I just want to thank the entire Early Show team for a terrific series of broadcasts from South Beach last week. Each show had a big time feel, the bookings were terrific and the overall presentation was first rate. I know how much hard work and planning went into this project, so I want to thank you all not just for all that effort, but also the fantastic results. You had an ambitious plan going in, but you all delivered when it really mattered.
Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing what you can do in New Orleans in three years.

Best,
Sean

I just want to thank and congratulate everyone at CBS Sports for such an outstanding performance on Super Bowl XLIV. Every single person in the entire Division contributed to the great success we achieved yesterday. It was the finest Super Bowl Pre-Game Show ever. The game production was absolutely flawless in every way from beginning to end. From noon right through the Post Game Show, our programming was filled with memorable and compelling images that will live on forever. And how cool is it to be able to say that we all worked on the most-watched program in television history! Thank you all so much again and congratulations on making television history.
