Scott Pelley Visits CBS DC Bureau

By Chris Ariens

Scott Pelley returned to the CBS News Washington bureau this morning, as the soon-to-be anchor of the network’s flagship newscast. An insider tells TVNewser, it was a “really great reception, everyone is thrilled he’s here.”

Pelley was CBS’ Chief White House correspondent during the Clinton administration. He was the first to report that Monica Lewinsky had become a cooperating witness in the investigation conducted by the Office of the Independent Counsel and was first to report that President Clinton had been subpoenaed to testify before the grand jury. He also got the first interview with Pres.-elect George W. Bush following the pro-longed 2000 election.

Pelley and CBS News president David Rhodes made the trip down this morning, a day after it was announced he’d be taking the anchor chair at the CBS Evening News on June 6.
