On April 15, “Tax Day Tea Party” protests will take place around the country, but the inspiration for the tea parties will not be participating.
CNBC’s Rick Santelli, whose February 19 on-air rant brought up the idea of a tea party, is “not going and not in any way involved” in the protests, CNBC spokesperson Brian Steel tells The Huffington Post.
The Website for the tea parties leaves no doubt Santelli was the driving force: “The Tea Party protests, in their current form, began in early 2009 when Rick Santelli, the On Air Editor for CNBC, set out on a rant to expose the bankrupt liberal agenda of the White House Administration and Congress.”
Two FNC personalities, Sean Hannity and Neil Cavuto, will be participating in April 15 tea parties in Atlanta and Sacramento.
