Sally Jenkins To Deliver Inaugural Frank Deford Lecture on Sports Journalism

Washington Post columnist Sally Jenkinswill deliver the inaugural Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism at University of Texas at Austin.

Jenkins, a native of Texas, will give a a speech entitled “Why Games Matter: Stories We Tell Ourselves about Ourselves,” on April 20 in the Student Activity Center auditorium.

The Frank Deford Lecture in Sports Journalism offers a platform for America’s most informed and insightful sports commentators to discuss the overarching societal and cultural issues associated with the influential industry they cover. Established in 2010, the event will be held annually as part of the Texas Program in Sports and Media’s Symposium on Sports and Society.

Along with the lecture, the University of Texas at Austin is one of two schools partnering with Sports Illustrated on the Sports Illustrated Sports Journalism Internship.

Upper division undergraduate or graduate students will spend a semester working for the magazine in New York and receive a relocation stipend and an hourly wage.
