Russ Mitchell Leaving ‘Early Show’ to Become CBS Correspondent

After over three years as news anchor with the program, Russ Mitchell is leaving CBS’ “Early Show” on Friday to become the national correspondent for the network.

As the NY Times reports, this is the first change to the program since new EP David Friedman arrived at the program, though Times sources say the decision was made before Friedman came on board.

Mitchell was the anchor of the Saturday edition of “The Early Show” for 10 years (1997-2007). He will continue to host the Sunday edition of “Evening News.”
