Rove on CBS: “The National Enquirer of Network News”

By SteveK

FNC contributor Karl Rove made some news during the premiere of America’s Election HQ this afternoon.

Rove discussed the 2008 presidential election, but also responded to last night’s 60 Minutes report which implicated him in a political smear campaign during the Don Siegelman‘s 2002 campaign for for Governor of Alabama. Rove denied ever having contact with Jill Simpson who accused him of participating. Rove then bashed CBS’ reporting tactics.

“It’s a lie what she said, and CBS is now sort of the National Enquirer of network news,” Rove told Bill Hemmer. “I mean, they didn’t bother to call me after five months. I have to read about it on the AP wire to know what they’re doing.”

Rove said earlier that he’d spoken with CBS regarding the story five months ago in an off-the-record conversation, but was not called for comment after they decided to move forward with the story.

The new America’s Election HQ show, meanwhile, which co-host Megyn Kelly said would last, “for the next eight days,” adds a new look for FNC, with a fresh graphic scheme and a curved lower third.
